Dewbury proudly presents a Jazz Bop Summer session
with one of the finest live bands on the planet! Fat
Freddy's Drop are a ten piece outfit hailing from the
musical hot bed of Wellington, New Zealand. Their music
is a rich combination of South Pacific soul, roots
reggae, deep jazz and bass heavy production. Their
critically acclaimed debut album "Based on a
True Story" is a journey through their many
influences, from Bill Withers to Outkast, John Coltrane
to King Tubby. It has blown up all over the world
notching up 135,000 sales and winning best album of
2005 at Gilles Petersons BBC Radio 1 Worldwide Music
Awards. The album has also made history in their native
New Zealand spending 11 weeks at the top of the album
charts.
First and foremost Fat Freddys are a live band and
their dynamic performances have won them critical acclaim
and various awards throughout the globe. This show forms
part of an extended European Tour featuring 10 band members
on stage including some of the outstanding female vocal
talent from the album including Ladi 6, Deva Mahal (Taj's
daughter) and Lisa Tomlins. It also coincides with the
release of the new single "Cays Crays" on Kartel
on the 26/6.
